Depth over breadth. Always

Focused clinical research experience.

We would rather be specific about where our experience is strongest than present a long list of therapeutic areas.

MDTrials' depth is concentrated in oncology, inflammatory bowel disease and hepatology, with additional experience in selected adjacent areas.

One distinction matters throughout this page. MDTrials CRO and MDTrials Sites do not have identical therapeutic footprints.

Our CRO experience is broader than our managed site network, which is currently anchored in inflammatory bowel disease and gastroenterology.

We set out below which is which, because a sponsor who assumes otherwise will find out at site selection.

Therapeutic Expertise 2

Early-phase oncology, done at site level

Oncology — CRO-led experience

Oncology is the deepest historical area in our clinical-operations leadership. Experience includes Canadian early-phase oncology coordination, site-level trial operations and clinical trial monitoring. That background informs how MDTrials CRO approaches complex protocols, safety workflows, deviations, source documentation and investigator-site oversight.

Early-phase oncology is unforgiving of loose operations. Eligibility is narrow, participants are often heavily pre-treated, dose decisions depend on clean and timely safety data, and a documentation gap discovered late can compromise an entire cohort. Our approach reflects having done this work at the site rather than only supervising it from a distance.

How oncology programs are delivered

Our oncology experience sits with the MDTrials CRO team rather than within the MDTrials Sites network, which is currently anchored in inflammatory bowel disease and gastroenterology. Oncology studies are therefore delivered through qualified external investigational sites, identified and assessed against the protocol and confirmed with the sponsor. We would rather state that plainly than let a sponsor discover it during site selection.

For oncology programs, MDTrials CRO provides site identification and feasibility, regulatory and ethics submissions, start-up and activation, monitoring, and project management, with medical monitoring, safety reporting, biometrics and central imaging coordinated through qualified partners under documented oversight.

Gastrointestinal oncology

For gastrointestinal cancers specifically, our combination of oncology operational experience and an established gastroenterology site relationship is a genuine adjacency rather than a marketing construction. GI cancer patients frequently present and are assessed through gastroenterology and endoscopy pathways. We understand endoscopic assessment workflows, luminal procedure burden on a site and on a participant, and the investigator networks through which these patients move — which is directly relevant to feasibility and site identification for gastric, colorectal, oesophageal and hepatobiliary programs.

This is a feasibility and operational advantage, not a claim of oncology site capability within the network.

Inflammatory bowel disease — where CRO and Sites intersect

IBD is the strongest point of connection between the two service lines. MDTrials Sites is anchored by PILLAR in Lethbridge, and the organization has direct exposure to the practical site-level realities of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis studies: feasibility, procedure burden, recruitment pathways, visit scheduling, documentation and monitoring readiness.

That operational familiarity is unusual for a CRO of our size. Knowing how endoscopy scheduling constrains a visit window, where central reading requirements create delay, and which eligibility criteria quietly exclude most of a clinic's population produces better feasibility and more realistic timelines. For IBD programs, both service lines can be engaged together or separately.

Hepatology — adjacent specialist capability

Hepatology is a deliberate area of development built around gastroenterology and hepatology investigator expertise and overlapping clinical infrastructure. It shares investigator networks, referral pathways and site infrastructure with our IBD and gastroenterology capability.

Public copy should focus on areas actually supported by current investigators and sites; detailed indication lists should be added only as capability and study experience are confirmed.

Additional experience

008 epidermis

Dermatology

Additional CRO and team experience. Not currently represented in the managed site network.

Virus

Infectious disease

Legacy Conduct Research site claim. Do not feature at launch unless current experience is documented and strategically relevant.

006 dna

Rare and genetic disease

Additional experience, and an active direction of site-network development. Specific site and registry capabilities will be published as relationships are formalized and consented; until then, no named claim is made.

Configuration

Medical devices

Additional project experience, including a device trial delivered in partnership with a United States-based CRO. Keep device work secondary to the core drug-development story unless a defined device pipeline emerges.

Two strengths that rarely sit together

Service-line clarity

MDTrials CRO can support programs across the experience areas stated above when the required team and partners are available. MDTrials Sites publishes only the therapeutic capability of its current managed sites. The website must not imply that every CRO therapeutic area is represented in the site network.

Not a fit? We'll say so

If your programme sits outside these areas

Tell us anyway. If we are not the right partner we will say so directly, and where we can we will point you toward someone who is. Taking work outside our competence is not a favour to a sponsor.

Frequent Questions

  • Do you have oncology sites in your network? No. The managed site network is currently anchored in inflammatory bowel disease and gastroenterology. Oncology programs are delivered by MDTrials CRO through qualified external investigational sites, with site selection confirmed by the sponsor.
  • What makes you a credible partner for a GI oncology study? Two things that rarely sit together in an organization of our size: oncology operational experience at early-phase sites, and a live gastroenterology site relationship. That combination is directly useful for feasibility, site identification and understanding endoscopic and procedural burden in GI cancer protocols.
  • Can MDTrials CRO and MDTrials Sites both work on my study?Where the indication fits the managed network — currently IBD and gastroenterology — yes, subject to disclosure of the affiliation and your decision on site selection. In other therapeutic areas, MDTrials CRO works with external sites.
  • How do you substantiate therapeutic experience during vendor qualification? We provide experience attribution that distinguishes company, team and individual experience, supported by retained evidence. We do not present individual or team experience as a corporate trial count.
